Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2017 Verified Purchase This book gives many Psalms and words that can be written on paper for many practical uses. The section about Cursing others or causing mishap in their lives was interesting in that it has prepared me to understand what an enemy will need of me in order to do me harm. It helps good people to know what to watch out for. I know if I see a tin can in my yard. it is best not to touch it, until I have prayed it with hex breaking holy water and prayed over it bc it could very well be a curse intended to hard me. I am now Leary about giving others my photograph unless I know them really well. I definitely don't want anybody having my hair follicles and nail clippings or any item of clothing. However this book also shows you how to protect yourself with the power of the biblical verses. Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2018 Verified Purchase As someone who was not raised with these traditions, I find it overwhelming trying to find my way through the plethora of info available today. And as someone who does not really like to read hundreds of pages at a time, I absolutely LOVE this book. It cuts to the chase, gives you what you need to know right now, and lets you educate yourself more as you are able. I have books on my shelf that I've never read. I know for a fact that this book won't even make it to my bookshelf! It will always be within arm's reach. I also purchased The Art of Hoodoo Candle Magic, and feel the same about that book as well. Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2017 Verified Purchase I read this book start to finish The first Day I got it And I am ready to read it over and over again. As an African American I owe myself the Truth about my people. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Guide I read this book start to finish The first Day I got it And I am ready to read it over and over again. Images in this review Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2018 Verified Purchase I am a fan of Cat's other books, and this book, while it has some good information, could really be distilled down into a couple of web pages. The first 20 or so pages are more or less a general overview of written spells in general that have nothing to do with Hoodoo; which for a book of this size is a mighty chunk. Then it ends with a good chunk of spells that just utilize name, petition, and prayer papers. I was a little let down. Overall though this book does contain a good bit of must know information. I just think that what is necessary could have been posted to the LuckyMojo site, as it wasn't all that much. I will still buy any other book Cat or her team comes out with and I am glad that if the information was only going to be put out this way that I bought it. Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2017 Verified Purchase When it comes to magic books, the first question I always ask of the material is simple and direct: does it work in a practical, real world way? The answer that came back to me from the pages of Paper in My Shoe, was a resounding yes! The author, catherine yronwode, is the world's preeminent authority on the subject of Hoodoo. She is a full time practitioner in the Hoodoo Rootwork tradition, as well as a widely published, recognized world class expert in the field. You won't find a better guide for the down to earth use of Conjure spells involving written petitions than this book. Whether your concern is love, money, protection or other issues, this volume has a detailed spell to assist you in accomplishing your magical goals. Of particular interest to me are the numerous references to the use of the Psalms in spell casting, especially the section employing the seven cursing Psalms. I 'm going to create a bumper sticker that says, "Back off, man. I'm a Rootworker!" Strong magic, indeed! Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2015 Verified Purchase THis thin little volume is packed with information on practical spell craft . There is no theory or theology in this one.....straight up Hoodoo spell craft involving written petitions. Written by Cathererine Yronwode, a foremost authority on Hoodoo, this books tells how to use written petition in Hoodoo. Using the written word for magic has a long history in magic going all the way back to the Sumerian times. THe Sumerians would use clay bowls with writing that started from the edge and made it's way to the center. That way when demon's read it they would go all the way to the center of the bowl and be trapped. ANother version has it going in the opposite direction. THe sumerians were not the only ones to use writing in magic. THe Greeks used lead tablets to write down spells. AFter writing what they wanted they would fold the lead sheet and nail it shut. From their they would throw it into a body of water or bury it in a graveyard. THe Norse used rune staffs to cast magic spells. Among the several technique taught, are how to make a name paper , a paper petition and some cool ways to write words to increase the effect. Written parchment can be carried on your person, made into a mojo bag even burned with the ashes being swallowed or used as a linament. Uses for these techniques include money spells, love spells, protection spells and crossing spell. Would like to give you an example of each. For example if you are a gambler you might get a whole nutmeg and wrap it with a signalized two dollar bill, including a mercury dime. Fold the money toward you. A simple mojo to attract love would be to write out a square name paper of the person you wish to attract. Fold it into a packet along with dried rose petal, coriander seed, tonk a bean and the person's hair. Once complete you can keep this as part of your person. A good protection spell would involve writing psalm 91 on paper and then burning it to ash. This could be mixed water for drinking or rubbed in as part of a massage oil. Dynamite comes in small packages and this book though 96 pages is loaded with techniques. For all you spell casters this book is for you. Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2015 Verified Purchase First of all, the books (I ordered 3 of Ms. Yronwode's titles) arrived on schedule. As soon as I opened them, I found myself diving headlong into each of them alternately. They're all packed from cover-to-cover with all the information I was hoping to find and then some. One of the things that really made me want to buy Yronwode's books was that while reading through the vast body of information on her website, I found answers to further questions as if she knew I was going to ask them. That additionally confirmed her as the real deal to my mind. The lady plays no games in sharing a wealth of knowledge. She gets it poppin' from page 1! Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2016 Verified Purchase Ms. Cat does it again. Every petition for just about any cause. These small volumes are a good bargain and excellent reading about hoodoo and conjure work. Reviews with images

I bought this book based on the fact I've other books by Cat. Firstly it's a lot of context at the beginning which in my opinion is just fluff or filling as it's irrelevent and somewhat boring, for such a small book it's alot of unnecessary waffle. Secondly the spells well a majority require oils/herbs from the Lucky Mojo site which is great marketing but if you want to make your own spells again it's useless. You might as well save your cash and just read the info on the website or join the forum. Whilst it does give you a good list of spells you can probably research the ingredients yourself & adapt the spell to your needs or location (as you can't get some herbs in some countries). There's tiny section on candle magic, which she refers to in another book about candle magic but seriously she's been called out for this before. In the same book Candle magic it's literally a chunk of her website which is free. I'm all for supporting the witchy hoodoo toot workers community but at least give people something more than an inventory of your website. There's also a really badly worded sentence regarding your intentions for wanting to learn Hoodoo traditions, where she suggests if you aren't Black then get some Black friends (see pic). These sentiments whilst endearing they aren't helpful in tackling appropriation as having Black friends & being involved in the community doesn't make you less racist. Overall if you just want to add the book to your collection get it if not save your money & just check out the Lucky Mojo website
